Spider Vein Treatment[/x_custom_headline][x_gap size=”4px”][cs_text class=”cs-ta-justify”]

Many of our patients are concerned about unsightly purple and red spider veins on their legs. Fortunately, we offer sclerotherapy to eliminate or markedly improve these veins.

[/x_custom_headline][x_gap size=”4px”][cs_text]

Sclerotherapy is performed by injecting a solution directly into the unsightly vein using an ultra fine needle. This solution irritates the lining of the vein. Then, the body’s natural healing process seals off and eliminates the area of concern.

We often see a rush of ladies requesting this procedure in the springtime, as they contemplate wearing shorts for the summer. Unfortunately, this is not the best time to do this procedure and we advise all of our patients of the following:

As we mentioned the solution injected irritates the vein, eventually making most of them go away. This irritation also causes the vein to look more prominent for several weeks and potentially for 2 to 3 months. Maximal correction is usually seen at 4 months, although some areas will continue to improve for up to one year. For this reason, although it can be performed anytime, spring or summer is not necessarily the best time to undergo sclerotherapy. Allowing the healing process to take place over the winter when your legs will be covered is usually the best approach.

Complications are rare, and mostly involve a brownish pigmentation to the skin. This happens very infrequently, and almost always resolves in a few months, although occasionally it can take up to one year. Very rarely this can be permanent. Also all of the veins treated will not necessarily go completely away. If the blood flow in the vessel is too high it may re-open and not resolve. However, for most patients, the vessels either completely go away or are significantly reduced, decreasing their self-consciousness about their legs.

Another important point – Dr. Morris personally performs the sclerotherapy for you, not an office staff member. This is not true at many clinics providing this service – just ask.

The IPLĀ® machine is also effective for treatment of certain type of spider veins of the legs. Personal evaluation of your situation will determine if this is an option for you.
